Jan Marie is a transformational life coach who helps you LOVE yourself and make sure that you have the resources and support you need to make yourself a priority.
What made you decide to start Jan Marie Inc.?
I have been in the mental health field for over 18 years, 8 of which have been in private practice. Over the years I have worked with children, families, & couples. I have had the ability to fine tune my skills & pick and choose who I work with, but over and over again I have been seeing the same theme…people STUCK in their lives. They are either not living the lives they wanted to live, are settling in some way (career, relationships)…Overall Life. I kept meeting women who wanted more and didn’t know exactly how to make the changes they needed in life. Mom’s guilty for wanting more than just motherhood. They did not know how to balance being a woman and being a mom. Whenever I would ask, “What have you done for yourself?…What do you do for self-care.” They would all say “What’s that?”
I opened Jan Marie Inc. to devote my time to supporting women in prioritizing their lives, learning how to balance being a successful woman (whatever that means to them) & being a mother, without feeling guilt & without feeling like they are settling in their lives.
Jan Marie Inc. is dedicated to working with a select few women who are ready to make the change in their lives and are passionate about the process.
The main focus is hosting events for women to feel like the beautiful, intelligent, & worthy women that they are. There are weekend events, and self-care weekend retreats & one week long retreat that occurs annually. I am determined to teach women how to feel worthy & teach them to spoil themselves like they should be spoiled.
As a mom, how do you prioritize your day?
The key for me is to plan but then be flexible & focused. I live off of my never ending to do lists. I make sure my kids are bathed, fed & get to school. When they are in school, sleeping or with their exceptionally devoted dad, I work around the clock.
Who are your biggest influences?
My family. My grandparents & parents are Cuban immigrants. They had to leave the only home they knew, and start from scratch. I believe their sacrifice for us, instilled the morals & passion in me to do what I do. My father has relentless energy, and my mom…I remember her relentlessly working, going to school & raising us. My family is my greatest influence. There is no famous person who can compare to move me and support me as they have.
What advice would you give moms who work from home?
Plan what amount of time you can devote to your business around the time with your child. Make sure you are ready to make the commitment to take on any tasks/jobs you are signing up for. You need to have your own baby free space; even if it is your closet.
What advice would you give moms who are working to start or build their business?
To be successful you have to plan & have a routine. In order to be successful you need to be as dedicated to what you do as you are dedicated to your children. Don’t take on more than you can handle. Make sure you call in reinforcements as needed.
What one word would you choose to describe yourself?
Is there anything else you want to share with the Mom Empire?
You are AMAZING. It does take a village to raise a child. I love the idea of moms helping moms with their businesses. I think it is valuable that women, moms, can lean on one another & support one another while they are growing their businesses…it is BRILLIANT!
